The Native Americans made their home in Orlando. In 1842, a small settlement was established here. The city, itself, was named after a soldier who died in the area around 1867. His name was Orlando Reeves, and the story is told that when he passed, his tombstone marker was an old oak tree and cared into that tree was “Orlando’s Grave”. Simply told, the city was then so named. The city soon became Florida’s biggest recreational hub in the state. Upon Disney’s decision to choose Orlando for his theme park, after he quickly negated the idea of the Tampa Bay area or Miami due to their hurricanes.

Orlando is the sixth largest city in Florida and is dubbed the theme-park capital of the United States. It received the ranking of being the 36th Most Fun City in the United States in 2003 due to not only the theme parks, but it hosts national sports teams, dance performers, great malls and restaurants and is one of the top sites all of the world for tourists. Orlando is the home of the Orlando Magic NBA team.

Not only is it privy to the best parks, but it also is home to three Fortune 500 headquarters in its business area. It lies in close proximity to Cape Canaveral being only 40 minutes away to the NASA center and the port of Cape Canaveral where many cruise lines dock. Being the fabulous Florida vacation spot that it is, it established an airport in the early 1970’s. The airport is ranked the best in Florida and also #1 in the Nation by J.D. Power and Associates.

Orlando has a very warm climate being located in central Florida and this makes it ideal for the theme parts due to the climate being sunny and dry.

There is so much to do in Orlando, not only the theme parks but in downtown Orlando, itself. It is one of the largest retail markets in the USA and the malls far surpass many throughout the country. Take in one of the largest malls in the United States in the Florida Mall with over 250 stores. There is also the Mall at Millenia, which is a two level mall, Orlando Fashion square which has a 16 screen theater and Festival Bay Mall on the famous International Drive. If you can’t find it in Orlando, you can’t find it anywhere!

Some of the most unusual and remarkable attractions include the Audubon Center, Busch Gardens, home of the Cirque decubitus Soleil, Cypress Gardens, Gatorland, Sea World, Universal and the Walt Disney Resorts. The tourist rate in Orlando is the highest in the United States due to these attractions and visitors from all over the globe come here for their vacations and usually return.

There is more than just the parks, to view in Orlando. There are fine arts museums, The Charles Hosmer Museum, Cornell Fine Arts Museum, the zoo at the Central Florida Zoological Park. You can also enjoy culture in the Imperial Symphony Orchestra and the Maitland Art Center.

Not to be outdone, Orlando also offers enough sports to keep any fan enjoying their stay here. They have Minor League baseball teams, the largest Arena Football stadium, the Southern Professional Hockey League, the US Soccer League and also hosts the National Basketball League’s Orlando Magic. Also, for the avid football fan, Orlando hosts two of the major NCAA College Bowl games, the Capital Bowl and the Champs Sports Bowl.

Nightlife can be taken in almost anywhere in Orlando. There is a wide variety of clubs, comedy shows, bars, urbane and cultured lounges. Don’t forget, Universal and Disney have their own nightclub venues which offers multiple clubs for the price of one admission, all right in one area.

If you want to spend time in the glorious city where amusement and fun abounds, a vacation rental is a great way to go. Disney offers vacation villas. There are many well-established vacation home agencies where you can find beautiful quarters for you and your family at the most reasonable prices. You can have that luxury vacation and be comfortable and safe in your own private area.
