Cedric Kyles was born on April 24, 1964 in Jefferson City , Missouri. He went to college at Southeast Missouri State University and worked as a claims adjuster after college before finding his way on the comedy circuit. He started his TV career with an appearance on It’s Showtime at the Apollo followed by spots on Def Comedy Jam on HBO and ComicView on BET. Cedric the Entertainer tickets began to sell like crazy when he hosted ComicView in 1993 and 1994. For his time on that show, he was awarded The Richard Pryor Comic of the Year Award in 1994.
He joined up with the Original Kings of Comedy in 1997 and stayed with them until 2000. The other Kinds of Comedy included Steve Harvey, D.L. Hughley and Bernie Mac. The show was highly successful and during the same time, he appeared in his first film in 1998 with Ride. Other film credits since then include Barbershop, Be Cool, Intolerable Cruelty, The Honeymooners, Big Momma’s House, Lemony Snicket and the film he produced, Johnson Family Vacation. He has also lent his voice to movies like Dr. Doolittle 2, Madagascar, Ice Age and Charlotte’s Web.
He has also made many TV appearances like on The Tonight Show, The Chris Rock Show, Politically Incorrect and The Steve Harvey Show. His role as Coach Cedric Robinson on The Steve Harvey Show got Cedric the Entertainer four consecutive “Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series” NAACP Image Awards.
Cedric the Entertainer also has developed his own philanthropy called The Cedric the Entertainer Charitable Foundation. The goal of the foundation is to give scholarships and provide outreach programs for children and families in the inner-city in St. Louis. The program is set on expanding nationally.
In 2001, Cedric the Entertainer has a celebrated spot in the top-rated Bud Light Super Bowl commercial.
