Do not forget Glasgow's Festivals!
As one of Britain's largest and most diverse cities, Glasgow has always had a lot to offer potential visitors to Scotland in the form of art and culture. But the city that often tends to be overlooked when it comes to its festival offerings; is shunted aside in favor of Edinburgh's great comic and theatrical deal, takes place every year in August. But while the Scottish capital's annual bid is certainly among the best in the exhibition in the British art scene, is important not to forget that Glasgow is also hosting a series of festivals throughout the year.
February, for example, sees the annual Glasgow Film Festival. Takes place across different locations in the city, the annual film festival is one of the most anticipated in Europe and celebrates a series of new films from around the continent and the world. And a range of Scottish talent, the 2007 Glasgow Film Festival selection includes over 90 films will be screened during the festival's ten days, including Hollywood-hyped bid as Robert de Niro's "The Good Shepherd 'and renowned Chinese director Zhang Yimou's new film" The Curse of the Golden scowl. Month February also sees "Aye Write! Book Festival down in Glasgow. As one of Scotland's leading book festivals," Aye Write! 'Celebrates the rich literary raisins from Glasgow and beyond; celebrates the best in Scottish literary talent. In 2007 the festival will be held at The Mitchell Library on North Street, a magnificent Baroque building which is known as Europe's largest reference library. This year more than 150 authors participating in the festival: personalities expected to attend include Iain Banks, Alasdair Gray, Andrew Motion, Will Hutton and David Blunkett.
If you are thinking about visiting Glasgow in March, you will be treated to Glasgow International Comedy Festival, which runs from 8 to 24 March. The event which runs across 40 venues and plays host to some of the best stand up comedians in the world, is the largest comedy festival in the UK 2007's hottest tickets include Russell Brand, Jimmy Carr, Paul Merton and Frankie Boyle. As well over 270 shows, various drama workshops and industry events will also be held – so if you're bored you stand-up shows, there are plenty of interactive events where you can participate.
