comcast comedy central hd channel
Hidden HD channels?
I have Comcast basic wired (and basic, I think I have the Discovery Channel, QVC, etc., but not the Disney Channel, MTV, Comedy Central, etc.) and today got an HDTV. I anticipated having to modify the plan and add the HDTV package on it and get an HD receiver. But when I put it up and went through the channels I already had HD channels for ABC, NBC, CBS, CW, FOX, PBS, and a few others. Is this a mistake or were always broadcast channels through and I just do not have the right to the TV to receive it?
It's a dirty little secret that they will not tell you. I have Mediacom in Ames, Iowa, and has all the local stations broadcasting in HD available on my TV without a cable box. Wait a bit. Here in Iowa, Mediacom has said that some HD channels will be added to Family Cable package, which for me, ESPN and ESPN2, the two channels I really want in HD. I would say hold off on the HD box. I would guess that you really do not need it. Unless you're weird like me, most of the TV watching is still broadcast and you will get it over your cable without spending more money on it. I took it out around a year ago when I bought my first HDTV. And get this. Some HDTVs will allow the broadcast channels in the correct order on the TV tuner. My small 19 inch HDTV sets some of the HD channels in the right sequence, while my big 30 inches and a little older, not. Just hold out. Within a year, most of the cable will be forced to go HD.
