Don Mancini the creator of Chucky, and David Kirschner the producer of all the Chucky movies are currently in the final stages of the writing for the Child’s Play remake. Mancini said in an interview that they have dropped the Horror Comedy genre, and bringing back the original roots, scary Chucky. They also said that there will be a bit of a prequel in this film, like why was Detective Mike Norris was chasing Charles Lee Ray and Eddie Caputo in the streets at night, and in the relationship of Lee Ray and Tiffany. Mancini also said that they will not be selling the script to Rogue Pictures like they did with Seed of Chucky, Kirschner said that they would have to go with Universal, that would be their first option. This will be better than the Rob Zombie remake of Halloween, said Kirschner. The film is currently awaiting production, and should start the filming early 2009, and scheduled for release mid 2010.
